Ciao Venezia - Polcenigo

In the past people used to live by the resources of agriculture and mountain, while many had to emigrate either transitorily to Venice and other italian towns, or definitively abroad in Europe and all over the world.
This international inclination as well as a particular bent for the culinary art contributed to celebrate Polcenigo and the Pedemontana as the land of origin of excellent chefs.
Actually, the maitres de cuisine from the Pedemontana have always been distinguishing since the times of the Serenissima and the Austrian Empire, in Venice as well as in Wien or in other important European capitals.

In Polcenigo an interesting exhibition named " Museo dell'Arte Cucinaria " (Museum of Culinary-Cooking Art) has been recently open to the public. Today, beside agriculture, Polcenigo lives also on a spreading industry well integrated in the environment, and on interesting enterprises based on handicraft, farms and game-breedings for hunting-preserves restocking, not to forget tourism which expecially in summer and on weekends pours to the Park of San Floriano

( recently joined to the European Naturalistic Parks ), the narrow streets of the historical centre and the picturesque sources of Gorgazzo and river Livenza. Quality tourism must be the challenge for the years to come, involving improvements of hotel structures and restoration of the existing building patrimony, emphasizing a natural and architectural context second to none in the full respect of the Polcenigo - Mezzomonte environment.

Feasts/Fairs/Meetings

The first weekend of September ( 4-5 Sept. '99 ) the secular " Sagra dei Sèst " takes place in Polcenigo, a traditional exhibition market of wicker and reed articles, meeting place for tourists and sector - operators.

In July the Park of San Floriano hosts yearly a course of sacred music with people
often coming from all over the world, which ends with a series of concerts in the main churches of the Pedemontana.

In Mezzomonte (Polcenigo) August Fair of the Cyclamen and Feast of the Chestnuts in Autumn.

In August Feasts in San Giovanni with the "Palio delle Contrade", where teams from local hamlets challenge one another in various amusing games.
The Feast is organized by the hamlet cultural board "Pro Loco San Dan".

On Christmas' Night ( 24th December ) suggestive Mass with divers at the source of Gorgazzo.
