By
far one of the best osterie in Venice,
where you can really experience the
Venetian way of life, starting in
the middle morning when mature housewives
and tough gondolieri stop here for
refreshments to sip an ombra of good
wine with a cicheto, which is the
typical Venetian bite-size snack made
either with fish, or salami, eggs
and vegetables and served directly
at the counter, where they are displayed
for a quick choice.
No doubt the place hidden behind the
green checkered curtains in the window
is original because of the single
long table introduced by small wooden
beams on which, sometimes, gondoliers'hats
are hung. Once past your first impression
of pleasant rusticity, you can enjoy
spaghetti di pesce (with fish), maccheroni
alle verdure (with vegetables), pasta
e fagioli (pasta and bean soup), bigoli
in salsa or baccalà alla vicentina
not to forget gorgeous plates of pesse
ai feri (grilled fish) accompanied
by good wines from Friuli and Verona. |
