This chapel was called
so after
being granted to the Lombard
colony by the Doge of Venice
in
1361.
The Milanese Brotherhood
re-
stored and enriched the
chapel
at its own cost. Alvise
Vivarini
started adorning the altar
with
a great painting of the
patron
saint of Milan, St. Ambrose,
which was then completed
by
the Friulan painter Marco
Basaiti.
