This
chapel was built in 1482 by
the Bernardo family and presents
a precious polyptych by Bartolomeo
Vivarini, portraying the Virgin
Enthroned with the Child on
Her knee. The work is set on
the altar within a rich and
graceful Renaissance frame,
and was renamed Madonna della
Salute ( Our Lady of Good Health
) after the plague of 1631.
In the upper part of the polyptych
is the painting of the Dead
Christ. Lorenzetti judged the
whole work as " strongly
stylised with vigorous use of
colour ". On the right-hand
wall you may have a look at
a beautiful Gothic urn dedicated
in 1500 to Girolamo and Lorenzo
Bernardo, likely to be a work
by Dalle Masegne. |
